Thursday May 8 - Matter - Final Project

Objective: Show a full understanding of atoms, elements, compounds and the periodic table of elements to complete your final project.

For your final project, you will pick and element from the periodic table of elements. Name the element, then give its symbol, atomic number and atomic mass. Draw an atom of the element, with nucleus, protons, electrons and neutrons. Research this element, then write a few paragraphs about it, describing some of the elements physical and chemical properties, including melting point and freezing point. Name some compounds this element in which this element is found. Tell me some of the history of this element, such as when it was discovered.

This can be done as a slideshow or as a written report with drawings. You can work in groups for this project. Projects will be presented in class at the end of the week.

If you chose to do a SLIDESHOW, you should have at least 7 slides that include:

1. Illustration of elements label. Be prepared to say what the information on the drawing is.

2. Illustration of the atom.

3. Some of the physical and chemical properties of the element.

4. Why the element is important and how it's used.

5. Some compounds it is part of.

6. History of the element.

7. Interesting information about the element.

If you choose to do a WRITTEN REPORT, you should have a least three paragraphs and two drawn illustrations.

1. Illustration of elements label. Be prepared to say what the information on the drawing is.

2. Illustration of the atom.

3. Some of the physical and chemical properties of the element. (Report.)

4. Why the element is important and how it's used. (Report.)

5. Some compounds it is part of. (Report.)

6. History of the element. (Report.)

7. Interesting information about the element. (Report.)
